CEREC: Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (quite a mouthful).
CEREC is advanced dentistry technology that was first used in 1985; it utilizes CAD/CAM as part of the tooth restoration design process. It is a single machine that consists of a computer, camera and a miller. It enables dentists like Dr. Stark who are experienced with the technology to obtain a 3-D digital image of a tooth, as well as what the filling/crown should look like, send the image to the CEREC mill and have it made on Enhance Dental's premises. This amazing process allows our patients to walk out with, for example, a crown all in one visit!
The CEREC system allows an experienced dentist to restore anyone’s teeth with tooth colored ceramic that is bonded to the tooth. Chipped and discolored front teeth can also be repaired using CEREC porcelain frontal veneers or crowns.
At our practice, Dr Stark will first ensure that all decay is removed from the impacted tooth while preserving as much as possible healthy tooth structure. As an experienced CEREC dentist, she will then make a 3D image of your tooth and use it as a guide to design your new tooth, filling or crown. While the mill is shaping your custom-designed crown, filling or tooth from a high quality ceramic block, you can relax, listen to music, read a book or do whatever you feel like doing. The average CEREC consultation takes about 2 hours and after that you will walk out with a beautiful, natural-looking smile!
Patients with busy schedules prefer the CEREC way of treatment because a single visit will provide them with a permanent, beautiful ceramic veneer or crown. There are no possibly messy impressions to be done and no temporary crowns that will require another visit or two before patients can sport their new crowns. It also involves fewer injections and less drilling. Apart from these benefits, CEREC crowns are metal free, won’t leak or crack and look very natural.
